Wales Bonner and Adidas have revealed their latest assortment of sneakers, and they’re all coming up crocodile.

The Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba, Superstar and Samba Millennium all make use of crocodile-printed leather with a diverse range of color schemes. The Samba, subject of Wales Bonner’s most celebrated Adidas sneaker collabs, gets the most straight-forward of croc leather applications, as the material graces the entire upper in either brown or blue, with the exception of a smooth leather mustache.

A new woven leather tongue in cream graces both sneakers to match the leather stripes, while each gets the same translucent gum cupsole. Gold eyelets appear at the top of the eyestays, and the embellished, crochet-like stitching signature to Wales Bonner’s collabs returns on the mustache.

In taking on the Superstar for the first time, Wales Bonner brings white croc leather for the bulk of the upper and blue croc leather for the stripes. Cream is then used for the smooth leather stitched mustache and tongue, as well as the shell toe and sole unit. Gold debossed branding then includes Wales Bonner’s name above the stripes.

Rounding out the assortment is the Samba Millennium, which is split into two distinct halves in two colorways. Blue croc leather and suede form the back half of an edition with a yellow leather midfoot and forefoot, and a red liner adds another pop of color. The other variant gets more adventurous with brown crocodile print and metallic silver leather, and both feature a cream and translucent gum sole unit and gold branding elements.

Alongside the sneakers, Wales Bonner and Adidas will release a clothing capsule that includes floral vests, shorts and tops in addition to tracksuits, hoodies and other outerwear in solid colors.

The collection’s campaign was shot in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood by photographer Rennel Medrano.

The Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba, Superstar and Samba Millennium, as well as the accompanying apparel, will release Thursday, October 24, through the Adidas Confirmed app, as well as select third-party retailers. Pricing for the sneakers ranges from $250 to $300.

At this point, there isn’t much ground the iconic Adidas Samba hasn’t covered. It’s been draped in lace and croc, turned into house slippers, given premium made-in-Italy upgrades and more. Now, the shoe’s getting a black-tie update courtesy of Japanese retailer Atmos.

Clad in black and silver, Atmos’ take on the 1950s indoor soccer shoe is about as formal as it gets. With minimal branding, the Atmos x Adidas Samba instead focuses on color and craftsmanship. Its shiny silver material is an Italian leather, while the black portions use patent leather for a thoroughly glossy look. Silver lace tips add contrast to the black shoelaces that come in the collaboration.

The only outward-facing logo found on the shoe is the Samba’s standard Adidas tongue branding. Elsewhere, the Samba’s signature side foil stamp has been removed completely, giving the shoes an added touch of elegance. Inside, Atmos’ logo is juxtaposed with the Adidas Trefoil symbol along with “designed by Tokyo” text.

The Atmos x Adidas Samba “Tuxedo” is priced at 18,700 Japanese yen, which converts to roughly $124 as of publishing. In comparison, Adidas’ recently released made-in-Italy Samba was retailed at $350.

While this is the official retail release of the Atmos x Adidas Samba “Tuxedo,” it’s not the first chance people have had to purchase the sneaker collab. It debuted at Adidas Con by Atmos in September, where pairs were sold in limited quantities.  

Atmos’ drawing for the “Tuxedo” Adidas Samba collaboration is open now through Oct. 25 via atmos-tokyo.com with winners announced on Oct. 26. The terms of Atmos’ raffle state that it only accepts orders from Japanese residents, but it’s possible that the sneakers will be released from global retailers soon.

After working on an unexpected running shoe released in September, English fashion designer Graces Wales Bonner is back with a diverse lineup of Adidas sneakers for fall 2024.

This time around, the designer’s eponymous Wales Bonner brand applies its fashion flair in the form of croc-textured materials. The latest range features familiar models including two Adidas Samba colorways, two Adidas Samba MN (Millennium) styles and a first for the collaboration, the Adidas Superstar. Four of the five upcoming sneakers are pictured here in official product images.

For its first Adidas Superstar collaboration, Wales Bonner covered nearly the entire upper in croc texture in an off-white shade dubbed “Wonder White” by Adidas. The model’s signature rubber toe cap remains unchanged. At the heel, Wales Bonner’s signature stitching is added, and the brand’s name appears in metallic gold on the lateral side of the right shoe. Navy blue Three Stripes branding is also given a glossy finish.

On the two Sambas, Wales Bonner forgoes its usual floppy folded tongue design for a basketweave-like woven look. One pair comes in brown croc with white accents, while the other is offered in navy blue croc with a burgundy liner. Both pairs use traditional gum rubber outsoles.

Rounding out the Wales Bonner x Adidas fall ’24 group are two versions of the Samba MN: one in metallic and another in suede, the former of which is pictured here. Keeping with the croc theme, the back portion of the Samba MN is colored in brown croc while the more modernized front section is coated in metallic silver. 

Despite the arrival of official images, release details for this latest Wales Bonner x Adidas collection have not been announced. Pricing has not been confirmed, but it’s said to be higher than recent Wales Bonner x Adidas collaborations, perhaps due to the addition of more premium materials.

Fans of the timeless Adidas Samba sneaker always have plenty to choose from. There are original-styled pairs, vegan versions, deconstructed designs and high-profile collaborations. Adding to the vast selection is a new Italian-made Samba style which is a contender for the most premium pair the brand has released yet — as well as the most expensive.

Following the July launch of a croc-textured, made-in-Italy Samba in black, Adidas is once again calling upon Italian factories for a new premium version of the sneaker. This time around, the classic Samba takes on a “Vachetta Tan” color scheme for a classy look that could very well pass as a dress shoe if not for its Three Stripes branding. 

The brown-colored Samba features a hand-polished calf leather upper with a leather lining sourced from Italy. According to Adidas, the liner was constructed with the Italian Sacchetto technique, a comfort-focused method which results in a more naturally flexible feel compared to traditional shoemaking.

To further the luxe look, the shoes are finished with hand-painted details. A gum rubber sole helps maintain the shoe’s iconic look. The sneakers come packaged in a special “Made in” box complete with individual dust bags for the left and right shoes. 

In January and March, Adidas issued its first made-in-Italy Samba OGs in “Core Black” and “Core White,” respectively.

Due to its made-in-Italy construction and premium materials, this Adidas Samba also comes with an increased price tag. While standard versions of the Samba OG retail for $100, the made-in-Italy iteration is priced at $350. In comparison, JJJJound’s made-in-Germany Samba was priced at $250, making the Italian pairs the most expensive Sambas yet.

Cassie opted for a casual look for a day in New York City on Monday.

The “Long Way 2 Go” singer was spotted wearing a cropped dark gray hoodie and wore it with her hood up. She paired the zip up with a pair of light wide-leg jeans in a light wash. She accessorized the look with a pair of hoop earrings and blackout sunglasses.

Cassie completed the look by slipping into a pair of Adidas Sambas. The white sneakers featured a leather upper accompanied by a light gray suede toe overlay and a ribbed tongue. The low top set brought contrast with a dark brown rubber sole and three black stripes to the side of the lace-up closure. The shoes were created in 1950 for football players training in frozen outdoor pitches. The pair currently retails for $100.

This outing comes a week after the singer was seen in another pair of Samba sneakers during a dinner with friends. She opted for an all-black pair to complete a monochrome look that included a T-shirt and a bucket hat. This was the singer’s first outing since her ex, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, was arrested.

It’s been two years since Cassie took the stage to perform. The singer has taken a break from the entertainment industry to pursue other interests. Over the past few years, she’s been a consistent figure in the fashion realm sitting front row at runway shows for Dion Lee and Louis Gabriel Nouch. The singer also starred in a few campaigns for brands like Forever 21 and SKIMS.

Her latest modeling venture led her into the footwear space where she was the face of Jessica Rich’s holiday 2022 campaign. She collaborated with the designer on a collection that included seven stiletto-heeled pieces.

Nearly 75 years after Adidas debuted the Samba, the sneaker had an unprecedented resurgence and rise in popularity. The now-trendy shoe was originally built for the soccer pitch, but the silhouette found new life universally from casual sneaker wearers all the way to sneakerheads.

The sneaker became a favorite for the style conscious, models and celebrities alike, as well as people who also appreciated its affordable price and comfortability. While now they can be hard to get a pair in one’s size due to its high demand, the classic black and white look is priced at $100. The shoes now have countless iterations including new colorways and special collaborations.

From Kendall Jenner to Brad Pitt’s girlfriend, take a look back at the celebrities who have leaned into the Adidas Samba hype over the years.

The FNAA 2023 Shoe of the Year continues to trend in 2024 with Adidas introducing new versions of the timeless Samba sneaker. While the shoe’s buzz may have cooled off slightly, there’s still plenty of energy around the classic model thanks to creative redesigns like the upcoming “Lace Flower” colorway.

Fitting in its nickname, the Adidas Samba “Lace Flower” cover the shoe’s traditionally leather upper in an open lace fabric. The delicate material stretches across nearly the entire shoe, although the standard suede toe and leather eyestay, heel and Three Stripes branding remain, as does the Samba’s signature rubber sole. 

Further new additions include a ruffled frill material that wraps around the eyelets and heel stripe and a set of alternate black-and-white shoelaces which add to the lacy look. Atop the laces sit removable Adidas-branded flower adornments which can be rearranged to the wearer’s liking — or removed altogether.

And it looks like the Samba may not be the only Adidas model to receive the lace look. Images on social media (below) also show the brand’s Adistar Cushion sneaker with a similar lace mesh bash and floral accoutrements. Further details on that pair are not yet known. 

Adding floral and frilly decorations to athletic sneakers has been a big trend in recent years. Many of Asics’ collaborations with designer Cecilie Bahnsen have featured similar details, as have some of Adidas’ own collaborations with Grace Wales Bonner. 

The Adidas Samba “Lace Flower” is set to arrive in an original-style white-and-black colorway officially known as “Footwear White/Core Black.” Specific release details have not been confirmed by the brand, but the shoe has a SKU of IH3371 and is expected to be released in October. This story will be updated with more details as they are announced.
