Fresh off their appearance at the 38th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards on Dec. 4, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky helped give back to Harlem community at a Dec. 5 event organized by Puma, a brand both artists have partnerships with.

Joined by other Puma ambassadors at the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem amid the holiday season, the couple helped distribute Puma sneakers, apparel, accessories and more items to over 200 members of the club. Whilst engaging with community of her partner’s native Harlem, Rihanna wore a cozy outfit set off by a pair of knit boots from Amina Muaddi.

The multi-hyphenate dressed up in a gray sweatshirt-dress with a mermaid-style skirt. The unique garment included a drawstring hoodie, fully leaning into the aesthetic of elevated comfort. She added another element to her ensemble with a brown fur vest, which introduced a new color and texture to the outfit. Her accessories included thickly-framed yellow-tinted sunglasses and layered gold pendant necklaces, which further amped up her glamour.

Maintaining her cozy vibe, Rihanna appeared to be wearing boots by Amina Muaddi, a designer she’s repped in the past and collaborated with through her Fenty line. The Italian-crafted Veneda Stretch boot features a ribbed knit fabric upper, with the shaft reaching up to the calf; the stretchy material hugs the leg for a sock-like fit. The shoes also feature a rounded toe and a 95 mm sculpted heel. From the luxury brand, the boot retails for $1,355.

Rihanna stepped out in a similar pair of knit sock boots from Bottega Veneta earlier this year, though those were flat shoes. When she’s dressing up in heels, she loves an Amina Muaddi shoe, among other brands. She debuted Muaddi’s new Anok Mule in September and slipped on a black version of what looked like the same silhouette in October to go with a catsuit designed by none other than A$AP Rocky.

Both A$AP Rocky and Rihanna have won Footwear News Achievement Awards for their work with Puma. A$AP Rocky won the Collaboration of the Year award with Puma at the FNAAs the day before they appeared at the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem. Back in 2016, Rihanna won the Shoe of the Year award for the Fenty Puma Creeper.

In a statement, Boohoo commented on the results, highlighting the women behind the looks. “While these women have completely different styles, they all have impeccable fashion sense. They not only have a keen eye for style, but also the confidence to carry their unique looks with grace. Of course, these iconic outfits wouldn’t be possible without their designers, with Taylor Swift working with everyone from Versace to Julien MacDonald. Their influence extends beyond the red carpet, inspiring fans to explore creativity and individuality in their looks. They show that fashion isn’t just about following trends, and that we should never be afraid of expressing ourselves through our clothes.”

Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian Poses in Biker Boots for New Boohoo Collaboration Announcement https://footwearnews.com/fashion/celebrity-style/kourtney-kardashian-pregnant-boots-boohoo-collaboration-1203529984/ Tue, 26 Sep 2023 16:09:56 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203529984

Kourtney Kardashian is returning to Boohoo — and she’s bringing her baby bump along for the ride.

In a new Instagram post shared on Monday, Kardashian posed against a patchwork denim chair to announce the return of her collaboration with the British fast fashion brand. In campaign imagery shot by the Morelli Brothers, the Lemme founder posed in a set of smooth black square-toed boots; the style was complete with short heels and ring-strapped ankle harnesses for added edge.

For the shoot, stylist Marc Eram styled the biker pair with a silver iteration of Melinda Maria’s $88 Baby Life’s A Ball necklace, worn as an anklet for a gleaming edge.

Kardashian’s attire for the shoot included a white graphic crop top with jagged black lettering, layered beneath a light beige trench coat while showcasing her baby bump. The set was paired with open pale beige shorts, complete with frayed hems — which, in a punk twist, were layered atop a pair of torn black fishnet tights. Kardashian’s imagery was in lieu of her Boohoo collaboration’s rock n’ roll aesthetic — seen within the duo’s first September 2022 launch, as well as their accompanying runway show during New York Fashion Week that same month.

Previously, Kardashian made waves in the media upon her first collaboration with Boohoo in September 2022. Following online backlash towards the line due to its fast fashion nature, the “Kardashians” star publicly shared her desire to learn more about sustainability — a sentiment echoed by Boohoo’s co-founder Carol Kane at its aforementioned runway show.

“It’s about being more sustainable, not 100% sustainable, because that will take a lot of time, and, really, the fashion industry is not a sustainable industry — but there are things you can do,” Kane exclusively told FN at the time. “There are things like wearing things more, not throwing things away, buying vintage, looking at the fiber content within a garment and how it’s produced.”

These Stores Are Now Charging Customers for Returning Clothes, Shoes & More https://footwearnews.com/business/retail/stores-charging-for-returns-1203312152/ Tue, 27 Dec 2022 20:35:41 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203312152 As the holiday season winds down, returns are top of mind for consumers as they seek to exchange or get rid of unwanted gifts.

Consumers are expected to return more than $816 billion worth of retail merchandise purchased in 2022, up from $761 billion last year, according to a report released earlier this month by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Appriss Retail.

As retail sales continue to grow, the average rate of return has remained flat at 16.5% compared with 16.6% in 2021, NRF said. And for every $1 billion in sales, the average retailer incurs $165 million in merchandise returns.

In terms of holiday sales, the NRF said that retailers can expect to see an average of 17.9% of merchandise returned, equating to nearly $171 billion.

In the same report, the NRF said that for every $100 in returned merchandise accepted, retailers lose $10.40 to return fraud. Of the types of return fraud retailers say they have experienced in the past year, half cited returns of used, non-defective merchandise, also known as wardrobing, and 41.4% cited the return of shoplifted or stolen merchandise. One-fifth (20%) attributed return fraud to organized retail crime, NRF reported.

To combat this rising cost, many retailers are quietly retiring their free online return policy. Now, retailers are opting to deduct fees from customer refunds if they choose to ship their returns back to the warehouse, while others are not covering shipping costs at all.

Here, see a roundup of all the retailers charging for returns.

Abercrombie & Fitch

The Ohio-based retailer deducts a $7 fee for online returns sent by mail. Customers can return unwanted items they ordered online at a store for free.

American Eagle Outfitters

If an order does not qualify for free returns, customers can still get a label to mail items back. A $5 fee will be deducted from the refund to cover shipping costs.

Belk

This Charlotte, N.C.-based department store chain does not cover customer’s return shipping costs. The retailer notes on its site that it will reimburse return shipping costs via a Belk gift card only if items were damaged in the initial shipment; the incorrect item was shipped; or if a defective item was shipped.

Boohoo

For U.S. consumers, the U.K. retailer is charging $6 to return online purchases in a 28-day window.

Dillard’s

The department store will deduct a $9.95 fee from a refund to make returns of online purchases by mail.

DSW – Designer Shoe Warehouse

Since 2018, DSW Gold or Elite members receive free return shipping. For all other customers, the costs of return shipping is $8.50 for any number of items and will be deducted from the refund. Customers can return unwanted items they ordered online at a store for free.

Foot Locker

The sneaker retailer deducts a $6.99 fee from refunds on all returns made by mail. The deduction will be waived if customers are seeking an exchange by mail.

JCPenney

The department store will deduct an $8 fee from all refunds on returned online purchases made by mail.

J. Crew

Customers wishing to return online orders by mail while using J. Crew’s prepaid label, will see a $7.50 deduction from their total refund. Returns can be made for free in-store.

Journeys

For all returns by mail, $7.95 will be deducted from the refund amount for using the retailer’s provided return label.

Kith

Refunds on online returns are provided in the form of Kith.com gift cards, which exclude original shipping costs and include a $8 restocking fee.

Kohl’s

Kohl’s states on its website that it no longer pays for return shipping costs. Costs of shipping back returns are on the customer.

Lands’ End

Similar to J. Crew, Lands’ End deducts $6.95 from the refund credit to ship online returns back to the warehouse. On its website, however, the Wisconsin-based brand, does state that U.S. and Canada customers “may qualify” for free returns of non-personalized Lands’ End branded merchandise within 90 days of purchase. It was unclear what the qualifications were to receive the free return.

L.L. Bean

On its website, the outdoor brand states that returns and exchanges through U.S. mail are $6.50 per package. Customers can return or exchange for free if they used an L.L. Bean Mastercard or paid entirely using Bean Bucks rewards.

Neiman Marcus

Eligible merchandise may be returned free if received within 15 days of the delivery date. However, a return fee of $9.95 will apply for all clearance items, all items returned after 15 days of delivery, and items marked as “Return Fees Apply.”

Next

The U.K.-based company will deduct $7 from customer’s refunds to return online purchases.

Pacsun

According to the retailer’s website, customers will not pay shipping fees up front, but a deduction of $7 will be taken out of the refund.

REI Co-op

The outdoor retailer deducts $5.99 from refunds to cover return shipping for standard size/weight packages.

Shoe Carnival

The retailer will deduct a $6 fee from all refunds on online returns sent by mail.

Uniqlo

The Japanese fast fashion retailer does not cover shipping costs to return online purchases, which are not accepted in-stores. Any alteration fees incurred on the returned items are also not refunded. The return cost will be covered, however, if customers received a defective, damaged or incorrect item.

Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters deducts a $5 restocking fee from all online orders returned by mail. Customers can return items for free in-store.

Zara

Zara caused a stir online in May when it announced it would charge customers in the U.K. 1.95 pounds, or about $2.45, to return online purchases to third-party drop-off points. In the US, however, the Spanish fast fashion retailer is charging consumer $3.95 for the same service.

BoohooMAN hosted an exclusive launch party to celebrate their new and highly anticipated co-designed collection with Swae Lee. The event took place yesterday in Los Angeles at Casita Hollywood yesterday night.

The rapper graced the red carpet dressed down in neutrals. Lee wore a white long-sleeve see-through shirt tucked into tan drawstring joggers which he wore alongside loads of diamond bling. The “Sunflower” singer sported thin black shades and sharply stepped into cream-colored laceless sneakers with a chunky silhouette that coordinated perfectly with the chic color scheme.

Boasting a whopping 23 million monthly Spotify listeners and a social following of 14 million across Instagram and TikTok alone, Lee has continued to cement his place as one of the biggest names in hip-hop.

“The campaign was driven by Swae Lee’s celebrity status with a focus on an abstract interpretation of the Cannes film festival. We took inspiration from the way celebrities grace the red carpet in front of a sea of eager photographers,” said boohooMAN Creative Director, Cleveland Campbell. The collection will be exclusively available on boohooMAN.com starting Nov. 2nd.

Boohoo Focuses on US Expansion With First Distribution Center https://footwearnews.com/business/retail/boohoo-opens-us-distribution-center-1203362019/ Wed, 26 Oct 2022 21:27:33 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203362019 Boohoo is preparing to expand its operations in the United States with its first distribution center.

Located in Elizabethtown, Pa., the new 1.1 million-sq.-ft. facility will open in early 2023 and will allow the UK-based fashion retailer to offer next-day service to the New York City metro region.

“We have a loyal and growing customer base in the U.S. and want to provide them with a faster and smoother service than we can currently offer from the UK,” David James, supply chain director at Boohoo, said in a statement. “Investing in our distribution network in the U.S. illustrates the confidence we have to grow our business in this important market.”

To bring this distribution center to life, Boohoo has tapped DHL Supply Chain to operate the facility. DHL said in a statement that it will hire 1,000 associates to staff the warehouse in its first year, with nearly 2,500 associates expected over the next three years.

The logistics company added that the site will feature several amenities, including a kitchen/canteen with fresh food prepared daily, as well as an on-site gym and activity area. More information on hiring opportunities at the site can be accessed at workfordhl.com.

“Although Boohoo has been servicing the U.S. through its existing network in the UK since 2006, the company’s growing order volumes and customer demand on this side of the pond in recent years made a U.S.-based distribution center for direct-to-consumer fulfillment a necessity,” said Kraig Foreman, president of e-commerce at DHL Supply Chain. “Their new facility will reduce transportation costs, improve service, and drive greater agility and speed, getting the latest trends into customers’ hands faster.”

This move comes one month after the British fast fashion retailer inked a deal with Kourtney Kardashian Barker. The partnership sees Kardashian Barker as the face of two upcoming sustainable collections for the company, which received a barrage of backlash online upon the announcement.

Speaking out against the negative comments, Kardashian Barker took to Instagram last month to invite experts to reach out with suggestions. “I want to help and from my experience so far working with the team I work with at Boohoo, they do too,” the reality star wrote. “I will be elaborating on their changes, how we’ve made this line more sustainable, and what I’ve learned we as consumers can do to help… all to come!!”

Kourtney Kardashian took sleek style to a new level in her latest Instagram post. The reality superstar and entrepreneur gave her Instagram followers a behind-the-scenes look at a photoshoot for her Boohoo collection.

The new photo sees Kardashian posing in a black High Shine Faux Croc Trench Coat from her Boohoo collection. Retailing for $60, the outerwear is embossed in an on-trend croc finish and features a tie waist belt fastening with a collar detailing and long cuffed sleeves.

Sticking to a monochromatic moment, Kardashian slipped into a set of black Jimmy Choo Oriel 110 leather ankle boots. The silhouette had a sharp, pointed toe with a slouchy upper and sat atop a thin 6-inch heel.

A go-to shoe style for many, ankle boots are extremely versatile shoes that can feature a variety of heel styles. Boots that stop at the ankle can be practical, dressy, casual, minimal, showy and more. Chelsea boots, combat boots and booties are all types of ankle boots.

To place more emphasis on her look, Kardashian simply accessorized with small square sunglasses and oversized star earrings. For glam, she went with soft makeup and styled her hair in a low bun.

The “Kardashians” star has been tapped to work with Boohoo on launching their two sustainable capsule collections, which will focus on approaching challenges regarding sustainability and helping others make eco-friendly shopping decisions. The first edgy 45-piece collection, as seen in the accompanying campaign, includes dresses, coats, separates and athleisure, along with boots, heeled sandals and wedges retailing from $6-$100.

When it comes to shoes, Kardashian‘s wardrobe includes similarly edgy styles with trendy details. She favors Prada’s popular lug-sole boots. She also can be seen in pointed-toe pumps, sandals and boots by luxury brands like Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta and Giuseppe Zanotti. When off-duty, the television star often wears sneakers from Converse, Veja and New Balance as well.

Kourtney Kardashian Gets Halloween-Ready in Mesh Tattoo Top, Miniskirt & Leather Boots https://footwearnews.com/fashion/celebrity-style/kourtney-kardashian-halloween-boots-mesh-top-1203359251/ Wed, 19 Oct 2022 15:33:10 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203359251 Kourtney Kardashian snapped a few spooky photos for her Instagram yesterday, capturing moments from a Halloween party she had at her home in Calabasas, Calif. The social media star celebrated the season by styling her look around her favorite Boohoo essentials which included a mesh top and leather booties.

The former “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star wore a see-through long-sleeve top featuring black graphics mirroring tattoos. For extra coverage, the Poosh owner layered the graphic top over a black bra and styled a sleek black wrap miniskirt on the bottom.

Kardashian found her footing in black knee-high boots fitted with chunky block heels and a shiny patent leather finish. Popularized in the ‘60 go-go era, knee-high boots leave the wearer’s knee exposed, but cover the calves.

Often worn with skirts, the style is perfect for the colder months as it protects from the elements while still allowing the wearer to show some leg. The style has become a canvas for many different silhouettes, colors, and patterns thanks to the shoe’s versatile nature.

Kardashian’s style has evolved to include more gothic components, mixing her trendy up-to-date pieces with a bit of rock and roll by way of boyfriend tees, ripped jeans, and mesh, lots of mesh.

When it comes to shoes, her wardrobe includes edgy influential styles with often trendy details. Two of Kardashian’s go-to pairs of shoes are Prada’s popular lug-sole boots and Naked Wolfe’s vegan leather platform boots. She also can be seen in pointed-toe pumps, strappy sandals, and boots by luxury brands like Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta, and Giuseppe Zanotti. When off-duty, she often wears comfortable sneakers from Converse, Veja, and New Balance.

Kourtney Kardashian’s Boohoo Front Row Talks Sustainability & Going Viral at NYFW https://footwearnews.com/shoes/womens-footwear/kourtney-kardashian-boohoo-fashion-show-collaboration-nyfw-1203337867/ Thu, 15 Sep 2022 20:21:17 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203337867 Kourtney Kardashian’s Boohoo collaboration has been one of the leading topics in the fashion industry this week, as the star’s line with the British fast fashion retailer has made headlines on every aspect from its connection to Kardashian’s personal style to its sustainability efforts. On Tuesday night, the duo launched a see-now-buy-now runway show during New York Fashion Week, emphasizing these aspects during the start of fashion’s busiest month.

Prior to the show, guests arrived in groups at the High Line. As the lights dimmed red, the front row eagerly awaited the start of the show — including restauranteur Jonathan Cheban, known as “Food God.” The longtime “Kardashians” star emphasized excitement for the show from its diverse attendees, a “real vibe” that he credited to Boohoo’s wide audience reach.

“Sometimes these shows that are not super, super-high fashion bring really cool people that are really colorful and really fun and really creative [together],” Cheban said. “I think that these shows have become a place where people really get dressed up — even more than just fashion people at really high, high-end shows, where they’re just all-black and nobody moves.”

Naturally, Kardashian’s pop culture reign this year — from her various Poosh launches to marrying Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker — has played a part in the collaboration’s viral nature. Through the star’s initial promotion of the brand and discussion around its sustainability this month, the show became a pop culture moment before it even took place. Audience members like actress Madison Pettis also resonated with these sentiments.

“I think it’s the sustainability aspect,” Pettis said, speaking to the audience’s excitement around collection. “It’s such an issue in fast fashion, and I think we all need to do a better job of contributing and making the world a better place and trying to keep the earth safe for longer.”

Indeed, sustainability has been a leading topic for Kardashian’s collection, which aims to be more sustainable by incorporating vintage clothing, recycled and traceable materials and transparent information on garment creation. Boohoo co-founder Carol Kane encouraged related actions with FN after the show, discussing how fast fashion — while not a sustainable part of industry itself — can incorporate more eco-friendliness.

“It’s about being more sustainable, not 100% sustainable, because that will take a lot of time, and, really, the fashion industry is not a sustainable industry — but there are things you can do,” Kane advised. “There are things like wearing things more, not throwing things away, buying vintage, looking at the fiber content within a garment and how it’s produced.”

The “Kardashians” star arrived from the backstage at The High Line for the occasion, hand-in-hand with husband Travis Barker. Posing solo on the red carpet, Kardashian wore a black faux leather coat from her collection. The $90 style featured a sharp collar and double-breasted silhouette, which Kardashian knotted to cover up her $35 sheer lace catsuit — the same ensemble she wore in the collaboration’s campaign.

Completing her outfit with a romantic spin was a set of black lingerie. Thin sunglasses, a sparkling choker and earrings, as well as black leather gloves, completed her outfit.

Kardashian’s ensemble was finished with a versatile pair of ankle boots. Her pointed-toe style featured black uppers with thin heels, likely totaling 4 inches in height. The set brought a streamlined finish to her outfit, remaining monochrome while also providing a slick height boost.

During Kardashian’s show, models walked the runway before the star and Barker, as well as an audience including Teresa, Gabriella and Melania Guidice, Madison Pettis and Jonathan Cheban. The collection was Boohoo’s first with Kardashian — a second is slated to launch next spring — inspired by her own edgy aesthetic and free-spirited attitude. The line has made headlines for its sustainability efforts in the fast fashion space, including two vintage-sourced styles, as well as composure from recycled textiles, sequins and polyester, traceable materials, and transparent information on garment creation.

Earlier this month, Boohoo announced that the “Kardashians” star was tapped to work with the brand on launching two upcoming sustainable capsule collections, which focus on approaching challenges regarding sustainability and helping others make eco-friendly shopping decisions. The first grunge-inspired 45-piece collection, as seen in the accompanying campaign starring Kardashian, includes dresses, coats and athleisure, along with boots, heeled sandals and wedges retailing from $6-$100.

The collection’s debut will be unveiled with several activations. One is an upcoming content series, featuring Kardashian speaking with specialists across fields like textiles, upcycling and worker welfare, including Stephanie Shepard, Tim Nelson, John Hickling, Christina Dean, Steven Bethell and Patrick Duffy. Following the first collection’s launch, a see-now-buy-now runway show will be held during New York Fashion Week. Spring 2023 will see a second collection launch, as well.

Aside from Kardashian, Boohoo has launched numerous campaigns and collections, including her stepson Landon Barker, Megan Fox, Tabria Majors, Taylor Hill and the City Girls.
